Angkor Wat Cambodia
A UNESCO World Heritage Centre - Angkor is one of the most important archaeological sites in South-East Asia. Stretching over some 400 km2, including forested area, Angkor Archaeological Park contains the magnificent remains of the different capitals of the Khmer Empire, from the 9th to the 15th century. They include the famous Temple of Angkor Wat and, at Angkor Thom, the Bayon Temple with its countless sculptural decorations. UNESCO has set up a wide-ranging programmed to safeguard this symbolic site and its surroundings.
Amazing is the only word that applies to seeing this incredible place. It is overwhelming, there is so much of it, so many temples. It is massive. Angkor Wat was built in the first half of the 12th century (113-5BC). "It is generally accepted that Angkor Wat was a funerary temple for King Suryavarman II and oriented to the west to conform to the symbolism between the setting sun and death".
They sell 3 day passes, and I can see why. Don't know how you can really explore it even in 3 days. I did my best. And took countless images. The colors in the stones and the texture are like paintings. The photos will speak for themselves. More to come. I am putting my selects at the top so if you don't have the time or interest you can skip through.
Enjoy!
